‘Industrial Space with Rustic Finish’ is one of 2019’s hottest wedding venue trends taking Instagram by storm and capturing those couples wanting to choose a unique venue for their wedding. Naturally, our team at weddingbooker.com wanted to find out more about how and why this kind of wedding venue is top of the list for today’s modern couples. What better way than to speak with Sara & Phil who got married in Tiny Rebel Brewery Bar in Newport, South Wales last summer.
For those of you who haven’t heard, the Tiny Rebel Brewing Co. is a big name in the brewing industry, founded in South Wales a brand new brewery was built in its hometown of Newport in 2017. Get that image of a dark, dingy factory out of your head because this place is actually beautiful! High ceilings filled with natural light, cool rustic furniture and glass windows looking into the brewery workspace offers a really great open and unique space. We can see why Sara & Phil chose such a unique venue to celebrate their nuptials.
We spoke to Sara and Phil to find out more….
Why this wedding venue?
‘We knew that we wanted a fairly laid back wedding so initially looked at some barns which had various indoor and outdoor spaces but the fit wasn’t quite right for us. We wanted to put our own stamp on things and keep it quite modern (with a rustic twist) and the barns felt a little too traditional. There was some expectation from our families to have a church wedding and so we knew the reception therefore really needed to be about us. We essentially wanted a celebration with good food, drink and good company in a place we felt comfortable.
Tiny Rebel Brewery is essentially our local ‘pub’. We love it there. Love the space, the atmosphere and the fact that nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff. When we had our initial meeting to discuss the possibility of having our wedding reception there, every answer to every question was YES. Yes we can do that, yes we can move that, yes it’s your day and we will facilitate what we can. Our decision to have our special day was therefore an easy one to make.
What we wanted to achieve
We had over 200 guests that we wanted to invite so wanted the space for everyone to dance and intermingle from the moment they walked into the reception. We went for buffet style food so that people could help themselves as and when they wanted, without the need for formality. This open, spacious, modern venue was perfect for that.
How we chose our theme and styling
I think some people found it odd that we were essentially having our wedding reception in an industrial brewery space which happened to be our local but we had a vision of how this familiar space could be transformed for our special day.
The theme was to feature the uniqueness of the industrial space and keep the decor fairly minimal and rustic. Beautiful flowers and lighting was our only real desire with coppers and silvers our chosen colour scheme. We worked with an amazing team at Wow Event Hire who understood our vision with ideas flowing from the initial meeting. The team knew what lighting we would need so that the venue didn’t feel too spacious as well as what flowers (and where) would work to give it the rustic feel we were hoping to achieve.
I am personally not the most creative person, my sisters additional touches like the self-made photo booth featured equipment which was already in the brewery making it authentic and thematic. My favourite special touch was our wedding cake was placed on a big beer barrel which looked incredible and complimented the venue setting perfectly.
I’m sure our guests wondered whether the ideas would work but without exception the reactions were amazing!!! People couldn’t get over the space we had and just how beautiful it looked with the multitude of flowers, lighting and special touches. We had family and friends telling us for weeks what an amazing day it was, how relaxed it felt and how the atmosphere was incredible from the beginning.
Our memories of the big day
This wedding venue was absolutely perfect for us. It was only a few minutes from the church and as soon as guests arrived, the atmosphere was electric. There was a constant buzz of conversation, family and friends catching up and having an amazing time. People were on the dancefloor from the second the reception started at 4pm!
Phil and I arrived at the venue first and waited up on the mezzanine with drinks in hand so that we could see all of our guests arrive. These were the standout moments for us…watching everyone that we wanted to share the day turn up and be amazed by the venue. Expectations were high and no one was disappointed.
We have lots of children in our family who had all been catered for (toys, games, children’s food) and all of the guests commented on how well the day had been catered to take everyone into consideration. There honestly isn’t a thing we would have changed about the day.
We love this wedding for so many reasons, not least the fact that Sara and Phil have managed to make it extremely personal to them, whilst also thinking about their guests throughout. The venue clearly worked perfectly for them and with the added personal touches on décor and entertainment they’ve created the day of their dreams in a unique space personal to them. Perfect
