As a wedding venue consultant and wedding planner, I can safely say in my experience planning and coordination weddings across Wales, there is one thing we are absolutely spoilt for choice for….our incredible and downright stunning selection of available wedding venues! Whatever style or look you want to create for your wedding day, Wales has something unique, picturesque and completely perfect on offer!
Whether you fancy a lighthouse or a castle by the sea, a stately home, a country manor, an urban industrial backdrop or a completely blank canvas for your festival style wedding celebration with glamping to boot, we’ve got you covered!
And here are a small selection of my personal favourites, just for you (in no particular order):
1. Llangoed Hall
Where is it?: Llyswen, near Brecon
Perfect for: Cwtching up in a comfy armchair at a winter wedding with a roaring fire in the grate
What makes it special: Llangoed Hall Wedding Venue is a lovely cosy hotel where you are served a warm welsh cake with your pot of tea in their own personalised china. The food is stunning, the bedrooms and reception rooms are fabulously decorated in the style of the previous owner Laura Ashley and the grounds are all beautifully kept. Whether you pop in for afternoon tea or book for your wedding, you always receive a fabulously, friendly welcome and exceptional service from the lovely team of staff.
2. St. Donat’s Castle
Where is it?: Llantwit Major, The Vale of Glamorgan
Perfect for: A summer wedding overlooking the sea
What makes it special?: St. Donats Castle is set in the grounds of Atlantic College, you can get married in your very own beautifully preserved castle with fabulous lawns and truly breath-taking views. I’ve been running weddings on behalf of St. Donat’s for a number of years, but I still never fail to be wowed by the stunning views across the channel from the Top Lawn. You can even head down to the private beach for your wedding photo-shoot too.
3. Rosedew Farm
Where is it: Llantwit Major?: The Vale of Glamorgan
Perfect for: A rustic barn wedding
What makes it special?: Rosedew Farm Wedding Venue is a fabulous lime-washed barn with its oak beams and Welsh slate, situated on a working farm, is definitely a completely blank canvas for you to decorate in your own personal style. The owners are super friendly and accommodating and will serve you and your guests a fabulous range of local fare should you wish. It’s yours for the whole weekend with a range of gorgeous stone cottages for the wedding party and holiday lets also available for your guests to stay in. You can even glamp if you like!
4. The King Arthur Hotel
Where is it?: Reynoldston, The Gower Peninsula, Swansea
Perfect for: A warm, welcoming escape for your family & friends to a quiet, traditional country inn overlooking the Gower Peninsula
What makes it special?: The King Arthur Hotel Wedding Venue is a warm, traditional country inn is set in the gorgeous Gower countryside, overlooking the peninsula with roaming sheep and plenty of quiet! The hotel rooms and apartments can accommodate your family and close friends for the duration of your festivities and you are sure of a wonderful welcome, personal service, incredible food and real ales. You won’t want to leave!
5. The Temple of Peace
Where is it?: Central Cardiff
Perfect for: An Art Deco themed wedding in the middle of Cardiff.
What makes it special?: The Temple of Peace Cardiff Wedding Venue is not – as many assume, a religious building, so you can absolutely have your wedding there, your way! It boasts an incredible, high ceiling Marble Hall which is a truly unique backdrop for your wedding ceremony, wedding reception or the whole shebang.
When I was first invited to the Temple of Peace to run their weddings as a freelance wedding planner, I couldn’t believe this hidden gem of a wedding venue, right in the centre of Cardiff. Perfect if your guests are travelling and want to make a mini-break of it, around your celebrations.’
