The Guildhall Helston

Cornwall

Description

The Guildhall is an approved premises as a venue for civil marriages under the Marriage Act 1949 and as a venue for civil partnerships under the Civil Partnership Act 2004. In addition to this we can also host civil naming ceremonies, renewal of vows...and wedding receptions.

The historic town of Helston was granted its charter in 1201 and hosts a mixture of Georgian and Victorian architecture. Helston is best known as the location of the Furry Dance which takes place on Flora Day (normally 8th May), with the Guildhall used as the starting location for most of the dances.

The Guildhall was constructed of beautiful Granite Ashlar on the site of the old market house in 1839 and has marvellous architectural features which make it the centre piece of the town`s historic buildings. In the past it has been a market house and Magistrates’ Court and is currently the location of the Town Council offices.
